How often should you service your aircon in Singapore?
For a home aircon in Singapore, a general service every three months and a chemical wash once a year is the schedule that keeps cooling strong and bills low. Units used daily, or in dusty or high-floor flats, sit at the shorter end of that range.
Here is what each service does and how to tell when you are overdue.
Why three months, not once a year
Singapore runs warm and humid all year, so your aircon works every month with no off-season. That constant use lets dust clog the filters and mould grow in the blower within weeks. A quarterly general service — filter clean, coil wipe, drainage check — clears that before it costs you cooling.
What a general service covers
- Washing the filters and front panel.
- Clearing the drainage tray and pipe so it does not overflow.
- Checking gas pressure and that the unit cools to its set temperature.
A general service takes about 15 to 20 minutes per unit.
When you need a chemical wash
Once a year, or when cooling has clearly dropped, book a chemical wash: the fan and coils are dismantled and soaked to remove mould and grime a general service cannot reach. If your aircon smells musty on start-up or drips indoors, it is overdue.
Signs you are behind
- Weak airflow or the room no longer reaching its set temperature.
- A musty smell when the unit starts.
- Water dripping from the indoor unit.
- A power bill creeping up with no change in use.
Keep the record
Knowing when each unit was last serviced — and by whom — is half the battle. The HDB maintenance checklist puts aircon servicing in context with the rest of your home, and Homees keeps every service on one timeline so “when did we last service it?” is always answerable.
